The Fallen

The smell of death hung in the air as they approached a blood stained door, they didn’t know how they got here, they didn’t know who or what was making the blood curdling sounds which awoke them from a dark slumber. 4 strangers had awoken in the dark to the sound of screaming, each telling themselves as the progressed deeper into this maze of a house not to trust anyone or anything they may see.

“Your turn to open the door” one said to another, they had not asked for names, they didn’t see the point, 4 social outcasts, the lowest of the low, when you had been that low you no longer had use for a name.

“Screw that, cant you hear that thing?”

Another scream was heard, unlike any they had heard in the gutter, the lonely gutter, many had been known to go missing, some mangled bodies found but this was different, the scream came to a abrupt end as a thud was heard behind the door. They approached with care, as soon as the scream had stopped they could make out a few words from behind the door, someone crying.

“We take it in turns, we agreed” a commanding voice echoed behind them. Each nodded as one approached the door, with his hand trembling he grabbed the handle, he stood there pondering for a few moments almost to say he know he was about to die.

“I really don’t feel right, maybe we should just go back” he said hoping to get the same reaction, each turned to face one another, they had seen enough to scare anyone for life, they had been there for days waiting for death as the screams came closer, each one at some time in the days that past had mused over the idea of simple jumping out the one window they had seen, death would be quicker that way.

“No, we have come to far, and Im not going back there… with those… things..” The once commanding voice now had a hint of terror as he spoke up

“ok… OK.. I’ll open it” As he slowly moved the handle blood started to drip over his shaking hand “this is it” he said under his breath as a single tear ran down his face, sensing death was just a heart beat away with nothing he could do he pulled down the handle and rushed forward expecting instant death, the walls were bleeding and he felt himself being pulled in as the door slammed behind him

“GET HIM OUT OF THERE” once again the commanding voice boomed as he pushed past the others, running full speed at the door he slammed into the door with little effort, the door swung open.

And… Nothing… He was gone, the room had returned to normal, nothing could be seen, it was like any other room. The others stood in the doorway confused and shocked, they walked into the room, they felt safe for the first time in days “where did he go?”

“I have no idea”

“We need to find him”

“I think hes part of it”

“don’t be stupid”

The door slammed once again, as one looked on in horror at the door the others just starred into his eyes, pure fear had struck this man, as if he was looking into the eyes of a soulless beast, they hesitated but the more they looked into his eyes the more panic rushed over their weary minds, they tried to turn but were frozen in place as if held against their will, that’s when the darkness came
